I have always loved growing things.
From a young age, I grew potted plants in my bedroom and learned to help them grow, often by creating elaborate ways to set up grow lights in my dark bedroom.
OUR STORY
Grown From The Heart
Blossom Hill Gardens was founded on a love of growing all things. Rooted in a deep appreciation for Mother Nature, we’re passionate about sharing her beauty - one flower at a time.
Our farm is set on a picturesque 160-acre property in Lamont County, Alberta, filled with rolling hills, meadows, forests, and ponds. We love this land and are committed to sustainable growing practices that respect the land, water, and environment.
Early Passion
Upon adulthood, I continued experimenting with sprouting various seeds and growing a vast number of houseplants within my home. Moving to the country in my mid twenties finally gave me the space to really delve into what I could grow and move my plant addiction outdoors. I became a familiar face at local greenhouses.
Growing Our Family
After having children, I left my job teaching elementary school and became more interested in growing food for my family and following sustainable organic growing practices that worked with nature. My husband often humored me as he would find greenhouse receipts and even plants hidden in various places around the yard or home.
Discovering Flowers
A good friend introduced me to the idea of incorporating flowers into the garden to attract pollinators and beneficial insects to work among the veggies. The vegetables I grew was food for my family's bodies, and as time went on the flowers became "food" for my soul, bringing me joy and more connection with nature.
Growing Beauty & Joy
I began planting various flower seeds, plugs, corms and tubers. Each new flower I learned about became my new favorite, and in the process, I discovered dahlias and have fallen in love with them.
Our Growing Dream
As my dahlia collection grew, so did our family's dreams. We realized that we wanted to connect more with a life of self-sufficiency, simple values and using our land to produce for us and others.
Blossom Hill Today
Today, we are happy to have turned that dream into our boutique family farm, Blossom Hill Gardens. Though I am the primary plant grower, both my two children and husband often give a helping hand in farm operations.
